Trip# 1: Mountain Palm Springs Feb 10-11  Grade: M4ADate: 2/10/2024
Leader: Katherine SheetsAssistant: Cheryl Kim
The Mountain Palm Springs area boasts some of the most charming palm oases in the Anza-Borrego Desert. The palms here are gregarious and grow in dense clusters, often with pools of water at their feet. After setting up our tents and camp kitchen, we will have a tent tour, an introduction orientation to using a map and compass, and discuss camp sanitation.

After a snack (or lunch) we will go on a 2.5 mile day hike and explore four palm oases. We don't gain or lose much altitude, but the terrain is rocky. After returning to camp, we will have a short rest and snack, and then go on an optional 1 mile day hike for more exploration. We will return to camp before dark to get ready for our campfire, and dinner. After breakfast on Sunday we will have water filtration and backpack packing demonstrations. We will then break camp and head home.

Special Outing Requirements: Sturdy hiking shoes or boots required due to rocky terrain, a daypack, 2 lunches, 1 dinner, 1 breakfast, snacks, and an appetizer or dessert if you wish.
