GREEN GREEN GREEN!!! Already sick of the brown, hot, unforgiving desert? Sick of every plant trying to kill you? This trip will explore a lovely, wild section of the majestic Pacific Crest Trail through the Agua Caliente Wilderness in Cleveland National Forest. We will have spectacular views of seemingly endless rolling green mountain scenery the entire way, with mature live oaks, black oaks, chaparral, manzanita, grasses, wildflowers, huge granite boulders and more. We will be camping in a grassy area surrounded by live oaks. Saturday we will do an off trail day hike up to a peak in the area to get some good views. The view of Hot Springs Mountain, the tallest peak in San Diego County, is quite impressive from this vantage point.
IMPORTANT NOTES: You will need to carry 6L of water for the backpack so you must be fit. Also, we will be camping at 5000ft in February. It will be COLD at night. You must be prepared for cold temps or possibly even snow.
Special Outing Requirements: Warm hat, gloves, warm layers, and good fitness level. Good idea to bring two sleeping mats, one must be closed cell foam and the other can be either air mattress or another closed cell foam. This is for extra insulation from the cold ground.
Water Requirements: 6 Liters |
