Located in Warner Springs, this 6.7-mile out-and-back hike takes us to Eagle Rock, a stunning granite formation that truly looks like an eagle with wings outstretched. The trail is a mellow, scenic stretch of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), winding under oak trees and across open meadows where cows sometimes wander by. We’ll start at the Eagle Rock trailhead and hike a little over 3 miles to the formation, with plenty of time for photos and a well-earned break. We will also share some history and fun facts about the PCT. Then we’ll head back to the cars for a short drive to Los Coyotes Reservation Campground, where we’ll set up camp, cover some WBC teaching topics, take a few tent tours, and wrap up the evening with a potluck dinner, good conversation, and stargazing. The next morning, we’ll enjoy breakfast before breaking camp and driving to the Agua Caliente Creek PCT trailhead. We’ll hike about 3 miles out and back, past a creek bed where we can practice filtering water as a demo; then continue on the trail through shrub- and cactus-covered hillsides taking in the views before looping back to the cars and heading home—just in time for the Super Bowl.
