SAT - After setting up our tents, we'll perform a tent inspection, discuss low impact camping and hiking, and review map orientation. Then we'll hike up Ghost Mtn to visit the ruins of Yaquitepec, Tanya and Marshall South's 1930's adobe cabin. After lunch atop the mountain, we'll search for a 1960's military jet crash, then return to camp to discuss desert camping and hiking gear; We'll then prepare for happy hour and dinner, after which we'll cook s'mores (leader-supplied fixings) and swap stories around the campfire before our short starry starry night hike.
SUN - After breakfast we'll break camp and play Bocce Ball then drive to a trailhead for another short hike to a Native American village site. Afterwards we'll return to the kiosk for sign-outs before returning home.
FOOD: Plan to eat breakfast before you leave home. Bring two trail lunches, one dinner, one breakfast, and snacks for both days.
Special Outing Requirements: Arrive at the carpool or meeting site(s) 10 minutes early to allow for traffic and last minute glitches. Each person should bring their own TEN ESSENTIALS and a positive attitude! Trekking pole(s) will be helpful due to portions of the trails with elevation/boulders/rocks.
Water Requirements: Each student to bring 1 1/2 gallons. This allows 2 quarts per day, 2 quarts for evening/morning camp needs. |
